COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITY INDEX · WEEKLY REPORT
Commercial Opportunity Index — week of Oct 20, 2026
5,985 researched opportunities were open across five trades, counted Oct 21, 2026, 9:56 PM PT. Each one is a business or company-owned building tied to a dated official record that passed our quality gates — not a raw public record, and not a request for service.
From Hammerline Opportunity Intelligence. Counts only; no businesses or addresses. Freshness: NEW ≤ 3 days, CURRENT 4–30, AGING 31–60 (citation date for violations; date found for openings).

THREE OBSERVATIONS FROM THE DATA
- Open city citations are 92% of the index.
5,513 of 5,985 open opportunities come from citations an owner has to correct — apartment-building pest control (4,003 in New York City alone), commercial roofing (1,233) and fire protection (277). Openings-based pest control and signage make up the rest.
- Fire protection is the one trade where Philadelphia leads New York.
Philadelphia has 167 open fire-protection opportunities to New York City’s 110, and 11 of the 13 cited in the last 3 days. For roofing it is the reverse: 1,225 in New York City, 8 in Philadelphia. 46% of fire-protection opportunities are already aging (31–60 days), so the newer ones are where timing is strongest.
- Fresh pest-control openings are concentrated in New York City.
17 of the 22 openings found in the last 3 days are in New York City. Florida and Texas inventory is mostly 4–30 days old — Miami has 28 open and 0 new.
A caution: these counts are our researched inventory, which is still growing as we extend coverage. A higher count next week is not by itself evidence that cities issued more citations.
